Sensei Carol Glenn began her karate training in March 1979 at the Ann Arbor Y Karate Club. She attained the rank of Shodan under Sensei Greer Golden in 1984 and subsequently earned the rank of Nidan from Master Masatoshi Nakayama in 1986. In 2014, she began training with the Swartz Creek Shotokan Karate Club and became Chief Instructor of that club in 2018. That same year, she graduated from the ISKF Instructor Training Program and has become an ISKF-certified Examiner, Instructor, and Judge. In 2023, Sensei Glenn achieved the rank of Shichidan.
Sensei Glenn hosts the annual Mid-America Summer Camp in Michigan, serves as Vice President of Mid-America ISKF, is a member of the Mid-America Technical Committee, and coaches the Mid-America National Team.
Sensei Glenn has participated in many training camps over the years. She has had the privilege of learning from many esteemed and skilled instructors, including Greer Golden, Teruyuki Okazaki, Shigeru Takashina, Yutaka Yaguchi, James Field, Cathy Cline, David Jones, and Hiroyoshi Okazaki. Additionally, she had the incredible opportunity to train with Masters Masatoshi Nakayama, Masahiko Tanaka, and Keinosuke Enoeda. These instructors have significantly contributed to her development.
Sensei Glenn has competed in numerous regional, national, and international tournaments. She was a member of the Mid-America Senior Kata Team, which won gold medals for six consecutive years from 2010 to 2015. Additionally, Sensei Glenn is a three-time Senior Women’s Kumite National Champion. Sensei Glenn competed internationally in the Shoto Cups held in Toronto, Cebu, and Cape Town, as well as the Pan-American Championship in Panama. Notably, she won a silver medal in Senior Women’s Kumite at the Shoto Cup in Cebu, Philippines, in 2012.
Sensei Glenn has judged at Regional, National, and International levels, including the Shoto Cups in Cebu, Cape Town, and London.
Sensei Glenn holds a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy and teaches weekly exercise classes at her local Senior Center. Her education in Physical Therapy has enhanced her karate training by providing a deeper understanding of karate techniques and skills. Sensei Glenn's karate training has contributed to her confidence, strength, and physical and mental well-being.
